Terms of Service

These terms cover your use of I Was Here, operated under The Fletching ("we," "us," "our"). By creating an account or using the site, you're agreeing to them. If something here doesn't work for you, please reach out to info@iwashereapp.com before using the site.

What I Was Here is

I Was Here lets you write letters, do guided interviews, and record or upload photos, audio, and video to a private vault, at your own pace. Some features — saving to your vault, printing letters, and sending videos in for finishing — are part of a paid membership or a one-time purchase, as shown on the site at the time you buy.

Who can use it

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or make a purchase. I Was Here is meant for adults preserving their own stories or their family's; if a child's story or memory is being preserved, that's done through a parent or guardian's account.

Your account

You're responsible for keeping your sign-in secure and for the activity that happens under your account. Let us know right away at info@iwashereapp.com if you think someone else has access to it.

Your content

You own what you write, record, and upload. By using I Was Here, you give us permission to store it and display it back to you (and to anyone you choose to share it with, like a family circle) so the service can work. If you submit a story through Tell Your Story for our public archive, you're also giving us permission to publish the display name, title, and story you submitted, after our review. You can ask us to remove a published submission at any time by emailing info@iwashereapp.com.

You're responsible for making sure you have the right to share anything you upload — including photos, recordings, or stories that involve other people — and for not uploading anything illegal, infringing, or abusive.

Payments, memberships, and refunds

Payments are processed securely by Stripe. A membership renews automatically at the interval shown when you subscribe (for example, yearly), until you cancel. You can cancel anytime from Manage Billing in your account, and cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. One-time purchases, like a video order or a public archive submission, are billed once at checkout.

If something isn't working as expected with a purchase, contact us at info@iwashereapp.com — we'll look at it and do what's fair. (We're a small, family-run project, so refunds are handled case by case rather than through an automated policy.)

Acceptable use

Please don't use I Was Here to upload or publish anything illegal, infringing on someone else's rights, harassing, or knowingly false, and please don't try to disrupt or gain unauthorized access to the site or other people's accounts.

Service "as is"

We work hard to keep I Was Here reliable, but we provide it "as is," without guarantees that it will always be available or error-free. To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or incidental damages arising from your use of the site; our liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

Changes to these terms

If we make a meaningful change to these terms, we'll update this page and change the date at the top. Continuing to use I Was Here after a change means you accept the updated terms.
